Get Your Business Involved in Screams & Scenes

Sunbury’s Revitalization, Inc. is excited to host our first Screams & Scenes event on Saturday, October 10 from 4-8 PM! The event will feature a fall festival in Cameron Park with vendors, food, entertainment, and activities, along with a family-friendly, self-guided ghost tour throughout Downtown Sunbury.

One of our biggest goals for Screams & Scenes is to use the event to get people out of Cameron Park and exploring our downtown businesses. Visitors participating in the ghost tour will receive a passport and travel throughout downtown to visit different stops, giving businesses a great opportunity to get involved and turn event traffic into foot traffic.

Host a Ghost 👻

Downtown businesses and property owners can sign up to “Host a Ghost” outside their building. Student performers will portray “living wax museum” style ghosts and share stories connected to Sunbury’s historic buildings, former residents, interesting happenings, and local legends.

There is very little work required from the business. SRI will coordinate the performers and work with our history partners to develop the stories. Having a ghost outside your location gives visitors another reason to stop in front of your business- and hopefully step inside while they're there!

Decorate Your Storefront 🎃

We are also hosting a Downtown Storefront Decorating Contest, with Screams & Scenes visitors voting for their favorite display.

We encourage businesses to have some fun with it! Displays can be spooky, funny, historic, fall-themed, or completely unique to your business. Even better, consider making your display interactive. Create a photo opportunity, put something in the window visitors have to find, add a small game or activity, offer a treat, or give people a reason to come inside.

The goal isn't just to decorate downtown- it is to create things for visitors to stop, look at, get familiar with your business, and become loyal customers!

Turn Event Visitors Into Customers

Even if you don't host a ghost or enter the decorating contest, there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the additional activity downtown. Businesses are encouraged to stay open during the event, offer a Screams & Scenes special, create a Halloween-themed product or menu item, offer samples, set up something outside their entrance, or encourage visitors to stop inside as they complete their tour.

Think about what would make someone walking past your business say, “Wait, let's go in there.”

Screams & Scenes is designed to bring people downtown, but we want to work together to give them reasons to explore once they arrive. The more businesses that participate, the more there will be for visitors to see and do- and the more we can encourage people to experience Downtown Sunbury as a whole.

Businesses are welcome to Host a Ghost, participate in the storefront decorating contest, create their own promotion, or do all three!
