ThinkSunbury Sculpture Unveiled as a New Symbol of Community Pride and Downtown Revitalization

Community leaders, residents, and partners celebrate the unveiling of a new downtown landmark representing pride, progress, and the official launch of the ThinkSunbury movement.

SUNBURY, PA – July 6, 2026 - On June 20th, Community members, elected officials, business leaders, and local partners gathered in Cameron Park to celebrate the official unveiling of the new ThinkSunbury sculpture, marking the public launch of the ThinkSunbury movement and a new chapter in downtown revitalization.

Installed in Cameron Park, the sculpture serves as a permanent symbol of community pride, collaboration, and momentum. More than a public art installation, it represents the shared vision that has emerged through years of planning, engagement, and investment in Sunbury's future. The sculpture is intended to create a recognizable identity for downtown while encouraging residents and visitors alike to celebrate, explore, and share everything Sunbury has to offer.

The ThinkSunbury initiative grew from the City's participation in the Blueprint Communities Program, where residents, business owners, and community organizations worked together to develop a long term strategy for downtown revitalization. Throughout that process, one recurring theme emerged: the need for a unified identity that could bring people together and celebrate the positive momentum taking place throughout the community. The unveiling of the sculpture represents the next step in carrying that vision forward.

"This sculpture is a physical reminder of a call to action. We want visitors, residents, and organizations to think of Sunbury for dining, shopping, outdoor recreation, and investment opportunities," said Jody Ocker, Executive Director of Sunbury's Revitalization, Inc. "ThinkSunbury is more than a brand. It is an invitation for every resident, business, organization, and visitor to believe in Sunbury's future and be part of building it."

The ceremony featured remarks from Executive Director Jody Ocker, Representative Michael Stender, and Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver, each recognizing the partnerships and community commitment that made the project possible. Following the unveiling, attendees gathered to celebrate with refreshments while exploring the new landmark, which is expected to become a destination for photographs, community celebrations, and visitors to downtown.

The ThinkSunbury Sculpture Project was made possible through funding from the FHLBank Pittsburgh Blueprint Communities Grant and the City of Sunbury Community Development Program. Led by the Blueprint Communities Downtown Sunbury Team, the project reflects years of collaboration among local businesses, organizations, contractors, volunteers, and community partners dedicated to strengthening downtown Sunbury.

The original concept for the ThinkSunbury logo was sketched on a napkin more than ten years ago by Zach Stotter. That early idea evolved into the sculpture unveiled today through the leadership of Project Coordinator Jody Ocker and Design Consultant David Snyder. Jeff and Alyssa Wolfe of Steel Ridge Construction fabricated the sculpture, while Aaron Barner of Barner's Home Improvements completed the installation. Additional support was provided by the City of Sunbury Department of Public Works, CES Engineering, Patterson Media Team, Horizon Powder Coat, the Sunbury Municipal Authority, and many other partners whose expertise and generosity helped bring the project to life.

The sculpture now stands as a lasting reminder that revitalization is about more than improving buildings and public spaces. It is about creating places that foster connection, strengthen community pride, and inspire people to invest in the future of their hometown. As downtown Sunbury continues implementing the goals established through Blueprint Communities and pursuing Pennsylvania's Main Street Matters designation, the ThinkSunbury sculpture serves as a visible symbol of the progress already underway and the work still ahead.
